PORTES DU SOLEIL SKI AREA
The Portes du Soleil has been one of the biggest players in world skiing for the last 40 years, with 12 linked resorts either side of the French-Swiss border just an hour from Geneva: Abondance, Avoriaz, Chatel, La Chapelle d’Abondance, Les Gets, Montriond, Morzine-Avoriaz, St Jean d’Aulps, Champery, Morgins, Torgon and Val-d’Illiez-Les Crozets-Champoussin. With such a huge choice of runs you can ski all week barely touching the same run twice.
This genuine Natural Powder Reserve at the heart of the Alps offers skiers unspoilt surroundings, mountain lifts that keep a low profile amid snowbound forests, pistes that wind their way through snow meadows, spruces and mountain chalets that have stood the test of time.
The individual villages each offer their own nuances, which are well worth a visit, with fantastic and often quieter skiing to be found around Morgins and Les Crosets on the Swiss side – don’t worry you won’t need to take your passport. The TG Ski chalets are ideally located in the centre of Morzine to give you the best opportunity to enjoy this exciting ski area. So whether you are an absolute beginner looking for gentle nursery slopes or avid powder hound looking to find some steep pitches or tight tree runs there is something for everyone in the Portes du Soleil.

The Portes du Soleil enjoys exceptionally good snowfall from mid-November to the end of April, with an average of 8m of powder every year. The vast ski area is captivating and provides challenges for everyone from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. We have spent 12 years skiing the terrain and we still discover new pistes and tree runs each winter. It really is an amazing winter playground.
The Portes du Soleil ski area is open from Saturday 23rd December to 22 April 2018. The Avoriaz area is due to open Friday 15th December 2017.
For those who are new to the ski area, we recommend that you speak with our experienced team, who will be happy to advise you on the most suitable slopes for your ability. They’ll also be able to give you the inside scoop on where to avoid the crowds, fantastic places to stop for lunch and the best spots to relax and enjoy the views.
Despite recent bad press about rising prices of mountain food the Portes du Soleil perhaps due to the abundance of good mountain restaurants provides a number of great value and seriously good mountainside eatery’s. We are happy to recommend our favourites, please just ask.
